Janky Donuts

Art Installation - Lot F Gallery

Inspired by the donut craze of our time, we created an art show reminiscent of a Roger Rabbit-esque donut fever dream. To market the show, we designed a Janky Donuts website and placed a discreet advertisement in a free local paper, teasing the opening of a new summer donut shop. Would anyone see it, would anyone think it was real?  Yes, oh my god yes. The response was overwhelming—before our show even premiered, we became the talk of Boston's culinary scene.
Embracing a multi-layered narrative of authenticity and artifice, sweetness and shadow, we aimed to offer an unforgettable experience. Guests, expecting a traditional donut shop, were instead greeted with an immersive journey. What appeared as a quaint storefront concealed a darker, more enigmatic realm beyond. Janky Donuts serves as a satirical reflection of contemporary America—where doughnuts, firearms, surveillance, and patriotism intersect, all under the whimsical oversight of lizard-people.
While our endeavor doesn't seek grand social commentary, we do playfully explore America's fascination with guns, weaving them into our narrative with a touch of irony.

At Janky Donuts, we make honest to goodness treats dripping with sincerity. Handmade by real life donuteurs, we hope you like how they feel inside you :)
